Behind My Name
When I was still studying I hate my name, coz no one could pronounce it correctly
even my teachers find it hard to pronounced. It just so happened I got a father who adored much Hitler that almost our named came from German. My two older bro are Imer and Ivan and lucky to my older sister her german named is just her nick, thank God my cousins don't like her to call Vorgha in her pretty face so they changed it to Decy Jane. But she still popularly known as VORGHA :p And to their younger sister and that's me it's MICHAELA. Since I was started schooling Mama Lisa always taught me how to pronounce my name correctly. And she taught me of Mi-kay-la, but still sad to say every first day of school mostly my teachers find it hard to pronounced and it end up calling me in my family name :( In my elementary days and high school days I always tell my teachers "It's Mi-kay-la mam" Even with my friends they give me Nick in their own way, my best friend in elementary (Mary Claire Cabillo) called me McMc, my high school friend called me Mikay,Micz, Micmic and my other one friend (Elenita Juablar) called me Maxim. Until I reached my college still same problem, the professor always ask how do I pronounced this named, coz it was a new environment and new classmates again they baptized me in the named ELLA from Mi-ka-ela. Even my literature professor give up of pronouncing correctly in my name, of all his student I'm the only one who called in family name :(. There are so many funny incident because of my name, coz they find it beautiful? I was had one suitor when I was in high school and he is from St. Joseph High School whom I met in Peacetival held in St. Benilde, (of course I was in Negros Occidental High School)He printed in his shirt instead of Metallica he put it Michaela. So, when I'm already in USLS mostly from St. Joseph will going to say "hala ikaw gali?" just because of the shirt. But as time goes by I started to love my name even it took years people will pronounce it correctly. I started to love it because my nick name Inday Gamay when I was a kid is no longer existing coz everybody in the family called me Mikay and some Micz. And some of my friend from church (April Joy Sudaria) called me Mickey. And my best buddy in college (Joan Agsam) called me Mikee.
And I remember my friend mom is working in a parlor and most of their client are well-off people and some are known, one day there was one client who was just having a vacation here in Bacolod, a writer of teleserye in television. They ask my friend if what are her friends name that they could used as a charater in their story. Because my friend pronounced my name as Mikaela and she gave also my nick name Mikay. And lately to my surprised oh my geeeee...and hopefully not that writer who asked my named. But it is good that my named used as a main character hahahaha.
My name may came from angel St. Michael the arch angel, and finding it out lately it has a beautiful meaning behind of it. Michaela (Hebrew. מיכאלה) is a feminine given name. It is a feminine form of the Hebrew name Michael (מִיכָאֵל), which means "Who is like God." It was rare in any country until it became fashionable in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in the 1950s and 1960s,and 1970s.
The problem with a name like Michaela, is that you never know how to pronounce it. In Hebrew, Michaela is pronounced as mi-khah-EH-lah. In English, the standard seems to be mi-KAY-lah.
It's a confusing name! I wouldn't even blame them if they find it hard to pronounce, except his result is absolutely appalling. It reads mi-tchah-eh-lah, sounds a bit like Mitchell, and has an extra Aleph just for kicks. This error is one only a native Hebrew speaker with spotty knowledge of English will make.
Whatever you pronounce it,I still love my name coz it is a given name by my parents and bless by God.
